Catching Up With Great Friends In Nashville
So I went to Nashville and met up with great friends Fabi, Frank and Cathryn.
Fun fact: The 4 of us met in an entrepreneur
program about 4 years ago.
We sort of just gravitated towards each other – helping each other level up and hold each other accountable. I am grateful for these people. I hope you have awesome friends like them in your life.

What's up everyone?
I just landed in Nashville, Tennessee and I am here because I’m meeting up with some friends who I haven’t seen in about two years. Now these friends are a little different than most and how I met them is an interesting story in and of itself. So let me figure out where the hell I’m going and I’ll tell you more about how I met them and introduce you to each of them.
So guys, I got to Nashville a little bit ago. Got some coffee then I met up with Fabe, who you’ll see behind me. And we grabbed some food. Just got some Mexican food. And that’s her.
So Fabe lives in Paraguay and she here for just about a week or so. So a group of us are getting together while she’s in the US so we can all get together and talk and just see each other cause we hadn’t seen each other in a very long time. Now all of us had met in an entrepreneur program a couple years back.
It’s been about three years now, four years now, since we started that program and we all started at the same exact time and we sort of gravitated towards one another through this entrepreneur program, and helped each other get through the program and work on our businesses and just help each other level up and hold each other accountable.
So it’s going to be really good to finally see everybody again in Nashville even though I’m only here for a short amount of time. So Fabe has some really exciting news. She’s pregnant.
– With a little girl.
– With a little girl.
– Five months now?
– Five months in.
– She’s five months in and what is the reason that you’re in Nashville?
– Well, I had a wedding, a friends wedding.
– Ahh, that’s right.
– Yeah, my best friends
– so she had a friends wedding
– From college, she’s getting, she got married last Saturday so that’s why I’m here and then I asked them to come here cause I was here. And I’m important.
– Yes and actually Katherine just called us. She’s demanding food, so now we have to go and meet her because she just landed and we’re gonna meet her so she can eat and not be hungry any more.
– Oh, my God, so as soon as we were just about to leave the restaurant we were looking for places and things to do in Nashville and we said, oh why don’t we go downtown and we’ll just walk around. As soon as we were stepping out into the Uber it started to torrential downpour.
So we got downtown and now we’re like, all right, what do we do, where do we go, ah, if we can’t do anything outside. So we decided to come to the Country Music Hall of Fame. So if you know me, you know that I love country music and now I’m looking forward to going in and seeing everything that there is to see. So Fabe and I just ended our tour of
– Country Music Hall of Fame
– Yes, all that good stuff. So, Fabe, who are you?
– I’m Fabe.
– So Fabe’s from Paraguay.
– Which is in South America, not Africa like some people think, it’s in South America. I’m from Paraguay, went to school here in Nashville, actually. I move back home three years ago after I graduated. And now I’m an entrepreneur.
– Yeah, so Fabe works from home. She runs a very successful business from her laptop, pretty much.
– It’s an online branding
– Personal branding business.
– It’s a personal branding business. And she teaches you how to set up your own personal brand for success really.
– Alright so we made it to the Airbnb and Frank beat us here. He actually drove down from Chicago
– And Frank, how was the drive?
– So it was about seven hours long and I had real high expectations for it cause I thought I’m an adventure man, I’m a savage, I’m a podcaster, I’m gonna like record voice notes that are gonna be brilliant and then have them transcribed.
Two hours in, um, big mistake. Should not have done that. Listened to a podcast and uh, stopped for gas and then wished I had a time machine so I could go back in time and book the 45 minute plane ride that it would take me to get here. Basically did a full days work of driving, should have just been a cab driver today. But then ended up catching a few good episodes of a new podcast at the end, so just live’n, learn’n, love’n Nashville.
– Yeah, sothat was Frank’s Frank’s adventure. And Katherine, how was your travels?
– It was magical,
-magical so good. I loved it, the whole two hours was so great.
– [Frank] Two hours, from New York.
– [Woman] New York City
– [Man] Get a rope, remember those old ah..
– Alright guys, so we’re going to, I don’t know, collab, and chat, chat and catch up. And then probably go get some good food somewhere. So…. peace. Alright, everyone, we just wrapped up dinner. It was a pretty good meal, we had a good time. We enjoyed each other’s company. What was ah, Fabe, what was your favorite part of this evening?
– Mac’n cheese.
– Mac’n cheese and she didn’t share it with anybody.
– Ah, probably when I ate like a pound of ribs.
– Pound of ribs to the face.
– A glass of wine.
– Hers was the Malbec.
– Malbec. And uh.
-What was my favorite part of the evening? My double espresso was pretty good. I enjoyed it. Alright everyone, until next time.
On a Day Like Today There's Nothing Else I'd Rather Be Doing
Sun is out and it's a perfect day to go play. Well,
in this case go on a boat ride.
Whenever I’m on the water, it seems that it is the cure for all the problems and chatter that is going on. It’s just so calm, still, and tranquil.
Share this to anyone who you think would benefit from it!
Good morning everyone.
Today is an awesome day because the sun is out. I knew the sun was gonna come out today so I planned my week accordingly, to free up this day, so we can have some fun. Already crushed out a couple hours worth of work this morning, and now we get the rest of the day to go play.
So let’s go.
So what we’re gonna do today is move the boat from the slip where it’s at now, to the yacht club, which is about 45 minutes North. And why we’re going to do this is because Lauren and I, we’re moving, and right now we’re staying at our parents house up North, and we wanna keep the boat closer to us so that we can use it more during the summer season.
So what I’m going to do is jump on the boat and take it North and we get to spend a little bit of time outside and on the water. And there’s nothin’ else that I’d rather be doing on a day like today.
So lets go for a boat ride.
So we’re on the boat. There’s a process that we do to get everything started and set up and get us off and running, but one very important thing that we have to do is this. One reason that I love boating so much is because you get out of the hustle and the bustle. You get away from the grind. You can disconnect and unwind and not let the drama, the problems of work and life effect you while you’re out on the water.
Just whenever you’re out on the boat or on the water, next to the ocean or in the ocean, it seems that, that is the cure for all the problems that are going on, in all the chatter that happens inside your head.
So, this background behind me is a perfect representation of the calmness that occurs on the water. It’s just very still, it’s very peaceful, it’s very tranquil. So we just got to the mouth of the river, just came up bay. It is crystal clear out here. I’m up at the bridge. You can see all the way down bay and see the light house, that’s how clear it is. It is absolutely beautiful out. Couldn’t ask for anything better. And this is what I’ve planned for.
Today, I’m so happy that I scheduled this chunk of time to come out here, ’cause this is perfect. Even if it’s just an hour or so, it’s exactly what I needed. So let’s head up the river. So behind me right now, you’ll see a bunch of sailboats, they’re small and the people sailing these boats are actually kids and a few teenagers.
This is how I grew up in the summer time. So instead of going to a summer camp or a daycare, we’d go to sailing program. And we get dropped off, or we go there, ride our bikes there or, I was fortunate enough to have a boat, I would take my boat from my grandma’s house to the yacht club, and go to sailing program at seven o’clock in the morning. And then we’d do that, we’d be sailing all day, until three o’clock and then we’d go home. And it was such a great way to grow up on the water, doing something different and constructive, more than the typical daycare or summer camp, something along those lines.
All right, today was a success. We’ve got Miss Lynne tied up and now we’re gonna head back and continue with the rest of the day, and get some more work done. So Miss Lynne’s all tied up in her slip, she’s safe and sound. And now Lauren and I can go out on her tonight. And it only took about and hour and 15 minutes to get from slip to slip but it was still worth taking the time off of work, but now we’re gonna go back home and finish up the rest of our day.
We Won The Shopify Build A BIGGER Business Competition
I’m an entrepreneur who’s living a life of abundance. Traveling to amazing places, meeting interesting people, and inspiring you to do the same.
What's up guys?
It’s Allen and you might be asking yourself, “Why are you in the back of a car?” and I’ll tell you where I’m going in a minute, but first, I’m in the back of a car. Check this out.
How we doin’ up there? I’m recording a video.
[Driver] How are you?
Look at this leg room. Got some water. My suit.
So, I’m in the back of this car right now heading to New York City and why I’m going to New York City is really important and the fun part about why I’m heading up there.
So, a lot of you know that Cathryn and I travel a lot for business. We go to conferences. We do mastermind groups. We go and speak at events and tell our story of how we grew and built our business and how we won this thing called The Shopify Build a Business competition, and if you don’t know what The Shopify Build a Business Competition is, it’s for any new business who’s just starting out.
The platform, the e-com platform called Shopify hosts it and holds it once a year and it’s this big to-do and this year, they actually changed around the rules of the competition. It’s no longer for entry-level businesses or businesses that are just starting. Now, it’s for businesses that are above and beyond, who are already established or who are getting established and trying to get to the next level.
So, they’re calling this The Build a Bigger Business competition and Cathryn and I ended up winning it so what does that mean? That means we go up to New York. We ring the New York Stock Exchange opening bell again. We go on a flight to Tony Robbins’ island in Fiji, of all places and it’s gonna be incredible.
So, I highly recommend you hit subscribe to this channel because I’m going to be pumping out a ton of video based on us winning this and everything that we’re about to experience in the coming days, so as I’m up there, I’m gonna figure out where everyone’s going, what we’re doing, what’s all happening and I’m giving you a front-row seat as it’s going on.
I’m Allen, see you in a little bit.
So, before I start the video of us in New York City and everything that’s to come up there, I just want to show you something really quick. This is how I dream to travel and commute back and forth to the city rather than being on the bus, because the bus sucks and this is awesome, look. I’ve got my mobile hot spot out. I’m working with the team. I’m in comfort, not dealing with different smells and different people and all that stuff. This is the way it’s gotta be.
So, guys, I just got to the hotel and this place is incredible. It’s the Public Hotel in New York City and this room is really freakin’ swanky. So, they have built-in seating, marble whatever.
As soon as I walked in the room, the blinds went up. They have this crazy bathroom stall shower thing. It’s incredible, so, also the lobby and everything is ridiculous, as well. I can’t wait to see what else we’re doin’ here. Anyway, we just got here and got the itinerary for this week and, oh my god, I have to tell ya how crazy everything is going to get.
Three full days in New York City packed full of mentor sessions, dinners, parties and then we’re jumpin’ on a plane and heading to Fiji. So, get ready ’cause I’m gonna try to document as much as I can for this to bring you along for the ride, like I said in the car.
Now, let’s go find Cathryn and meet up with my friends at Shopify.
Oh my gosh, last year, I came into the hotel and there was a goodie bag full of awesome stuff and look what we have this time. A goodie bag full of awesome stuff, so let’s scope out what this is.
Dear Allen, welcome. This is the itinerary that I was just mentioning before. Oh man. Black card with Shopify logo on it. Let’s open this up. Oh man, oh man. Build a bigger business.
So, the card is just a way to say thank you, get ready for your mentorship sessions. Get ready for this experience and get ready to just enjoy the hell out of life, which is what it’s all about, baby! Why we do it. Alright, time to open up the box. Oh, man. Question the impossible. Tim Ferriss. Today, we have pens it looks like. Oh, nice. I love the feel of this leather. Feels really good. Got little buttons. We out!
– [Cathryn] What are you doin’?
– Nothin’. I’m feelin’ excited. Feelin’ excited.
– [Cathryn] Me, too. Why are you nervous?
I don’t know. Nervous about the whole thing.
Back in the room, met with Cathryn. We chatted for a little bit, then we went downstairs to go meet up with a couple of the people at Shopify, but by the time we got down there, they were gone, ’cause they’re setting up for our event for this evening.
So, there’s only one event this evening and it’s a cocktail and dinner reception slash party and that starts at 5:30 which is in, literally, 10 minutes and that goes all the way ’til the end of the evening. So, that’s what we’re doing tonight.
We’re gonna meet all the other winners of the Build a Business, Build a Bigger Business competition. So, let’s go head up. Right around this corner is the Shopify event.
I’m waiting for Cathryn so we can walk in together. In the meantime, I’m drinking some champagne because I’m a little nervous. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen everybody and I also don’t know a lot of people who are gonna be here like the other winners and what they do and just never met ’em, so, it’s a mixture of nerves and excitement and just adrenaline, for sure. So, let’s hope Cathryn hurries up before I jump in there and just pull the Band-Aid off, and here she is. She’s got her… You got your bubbles?
– [Cathryn] Got my bubbles.
– Ow! So, we just got up here and this view is incredible and also, the people are incredible that we’re meeting. We’re meeting a bunch of the Shopify people, a bunch of the other winners, all the other winners, actually, and yeah, really interesting stuff.
I love connecting with people and you know, hearing their story. A lot of them are really young in business. A couple have only been around for about 18 months but they’re still killing it, so, it’s really cool.
Let’s go have a chat.
So, people have flown in from all over the friggin’ place. These guys flew in from the U.K. on Sunday, other people from San Diego. A couple people are here from the city, so it’s easy, just like us, just a car ride in. A quick ride. A lot of the Shopify people are from Toronto, a majority of them and yeah, can’t wait to meet everybody else.
We just got off the escalator, and now we’re meeting everybody at the street and we’re gonna go walk to dinner, about a 10 minute walk down the road, and we’re gonna grab dinner and meet everybody and talk and blab and have drinks and all that good stuff.
So, here’s the crew that I’m with right now. This place is crazy. So, they brought us in this separate room and we have name tags on the tables and lemme go find my assigned seat.
We just wrapped up dinner, and now, they’re loading us into this shuttle like cattle. I don’t know where we’re off to, but it’s gonna be fun. part of it. Cathryn and I, we’ve been through this before, so…
– We know what we’re doin’ right now.
– We understand what’s happening, but no one else does.
– But no one else does. No one knows what the hell they’re doin’ right now. We don’t know where we’re goin’. We’re just following people blind, here. Everyone right behind me, not everyone. There’s a couple people in front of me, but we’re walking down Wall Street right now to go check out something. Oh, man, guys.
– [Man] People are coming around us.
– I see it! I see it already.
– [Man] We are?
– Oh my god. So, right there on the side of the building, New York Stock Exchange building. It’s incredible. You have no idea. So, this is really crazy right now. Everyone’s being extremely quiet, I think because everyone’s emotions are so crazy right now, seeing their logos on the side of the New York Stock Exchange.
It’s really an incredible experience and it’s definitely one for the record books so let me go down and get some better shots for you guys. Seeing your logo on the side of New York Stock Exchange is, it’s unreal. It’s unreal, even though if you have no idea what the New York Stock Exchange is or what it represents or any of the history behind it, having your logo literally right there is just unreal.
It’s seriously unreal, and the fact that we’re all online, all of our businesses and we’re blending the old with the new, like the old-school business style of taking companies public and how long that tradition is and blending it with the new style of business as far as being online and digital and running remote teams and not having an office or like, a central office, it’s really amazing to blend those two things together and to have those here, represented right now is, it’s phenomenal and I’m loving every bit of it and so are all of these people.
So, the team from Australia, they just called their parents via Facetime and it got emotional and it got deep and it was really awe-inspiring to see them celebrating the fact that they’ve done something so phenomenal with their business and with their lives and to share that with their family across half of the globe is really great, to see them taking selfies right now is really awesome. We’re sitting here in front of the New York Stock Exchange and literally, our logo’s on the side of the building.
– I think I’m on the set of this new world. It doesn’t seem real. I’m still in awe and shock.
– I’m waiting for them to say, “Action!” It looks like a movie set.
– And like, we walk around the side of the street and you’d think everyone would just go crazy. But actually everyone got real quiet.
– Quiet. Yeah, so surreal, right?
Lessons I Learned in Fiji
I spent the past week in Namale, Tony Robbins' private resort in Fiji. And the teachings I learned there are lifelong. Here are a couple I want to share to you.
1. Instead of focusing on the reasons why you can’t do it or why it’s not possible, focus on just one thing why you can do it and why it’s possible.
2. Surround yourself with people who are positive.
Sending you all positive vibes! Share this video to anyone who you think would benefit from it!
Good morning everyone.
I just, getting back from a run and I’ll give Facebook’s algorithm a couple minutes to catch up with everything. So, this past week has been incredible.
Going to Namali, which is Tony Robbins’ private resort, in Fiji, was incredible. The people there were spectacular. And, the teachings there are lifelong. I’ve been practicing a lot of the teachings that everyone was sharing for a long time, but sometimes we get a little jaded and a little. Sometimes we get a little jaded, and we get a little, ah, you know, caught up with what’s going on in our world and what’s happening with us.
So, a couple teachings that they were sharing and that were abundant in Fiji were, you have to remain positive, and don’t focus on all the reasons why you can’t do something.
Sure there’s gonna be times in your life where you’re facing a challenge, or coming up to something that you’ve never done before, but to think of all the reasons why you can’t do it, is just going to stop you right in your tracks. And, what you need to do is think about, just the one reason why you can do this.
What’s one thing that you’ve done in your life that you’ve never done before that turned out successful?
Maybe it was something that you were, that you did when you were seven years old, and that’s the only time that you’ve done it but now, fast forward to today, you could take that teaching, and take that past self, or that past experience, and live in that right now. So, don’t think about all the things or all the reasons why you can’t do something. Focus on just the one reason why you can do it. The second is you have to, and which, what Tony describes as proximity is power.
You have to surround yourself with people of like-minded thoughts with high driven success, goals or high achievers, because what will happen is, lemme put it this way: if you travel abroad, a lot of people think it’s scary. Oh, I’m going to a different country, oh they don’t speak my language there, oh you know there’s, there’s something scary in the unknown. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that, most people in this world, are good people. It’s only the bad people that get the news and the attention. So, that’s why it feels like that there’s more bad people in this world. Most people are really good people, and they’d be willing to help you whether you’re new to a country, or new to a situation, or new to an environment that you’ve never been in before.
So, now that most people are good, there is one flaw in people. One flaw in people is that they’re, most people are just unhappy. Most people are negative. Most people are, they have good intentions but they’re stuck in this hamster wheel. In this trap of negativity. And that happens so often here in the US and in our culture. So, it’s surrounding yourself with people who are positive, who want to bring out the best in people. Not the people who want to bring out the best in people but, you know, have a negative spin on things, or try to think about all the ways that things can go wrong and, you know, are hedging their best that way.
I don’t think that’s the mindset of a growth mindset. You have to surround yourself with people who, who don’t bring you down, who don’t suck you down, who aren’t stressed out all the time, who aren’t, who aren’t, you know, thinking of all the possibilities, who are only thinking of ways to hold on to what they have right now. So, those are a couple key things. One, stay positive, and two, surround yourself with people who are positive. So this morning is positive vibes only.
Thank you everyone for watching. I saw a couple likes, and uh, and things come through, if you’re watching this in the future, share this video with someone you think would benefit from it.
Like, comment below, I’ll hang out for the day and, comment on this video with you guys.
