Construction of the New Chapel in Peru
Gerry and I met up with the architect for the new chapel that is being built in the next town. We pilled into the beetle, and maneuvered our way up some extremely run down areas. Then we get to the foot of an unpaved hill that looks too steep to even hike up, sure enough, the little beetle made it up to the place where the new chapel will be.
They used dynamite to blow the hillside to make room for the new structure. The buildings exterior walls were up and a roof was in place, but when I walked inside, there were 3 guys breaking boulders with sledge hammers and rebar. I am supposed to be helping with this project all next week, I’m not sure if I want to spend my time here hammering away at boulders, but I have time to decide.
Looking over the valley is an amazing sight. The view goes on for a few miles until the overcast and haze blur it out. A friend (dog) came up and stood at the edge of the cliff, looked like fucking Simba standing up there. Snapped a few shots of him and we left.
After we got back from the chapel, I went for a run. Gerry was worried that the stray dogs that are all over the place will be a problem for me. So he made me bring a stick to beat them off with. Thankfully not one barked at me, so I thought he was giving me some BS about the dogs.
When I returned there was one of the sisters from the parish in our house joining us for dinner. She asked if any of the dogs bothered me and I told her no. She then told a story of how her friend got seriously hurt via dog attack. OK, maybe Gerry wasn’t all BS.
We ate dinner, they left to do some work stuff and I hung out and worked on a few things and watched the football game in spanish.
