– You’ve had it wrong, operations and SOPs are sexy. See, everyone hates the operations and the creating SOPs for their business because it’s not some marketing, new, shiny object that’s coming out to help you generate all these leads for a penny, or get all these sales overnight, but what they do provide for your business, what they do provide for your business is a way to systematically grow and scale your company beyond levels of just you or what you think is possible.
Because what happens when you have operations, systems, processes, SOPs in the business? It means now you have a playbook and when someone comes to you and is ready to buy your business from you and says, “You know what, I want to buy your business from you, “and I want to take this over, but in order for me “to take this over, I need the playbook.” You say, “Well, I don’t have a playbook.” And what they’ll say is, “Great, now I need to hire you in the business.” And now you just got hired to work in a job of the business that you just created.
So when you have the SOPs, you can take this playbook and hand it to the new buyer, and say, “Guess what? You don’t need me, “just give me the lump of cash, “here’s the playbook, sayonara.” Now that is a whole lot better than trying to look for the next shiny object, or the new marketing strategy. I would much rather have a playbook to run the business and hand over to the next person, or maybe the kids, or maybe you just hand over to a new hire, and now you don’t have to train them. Now, you’re just freeing up some bandwidth for your business, and you no longer have to do this piece, because it’s all laid out here. You don’t have to train somebody, and now they’re doing it at a standard that you would do that task or that role.
